Fjallið og Hægstafjall, Haldórsvík

Route information
Drive to Haldórsvík and park your car next to the quarry north of the village. The hike ends by the stream in the middle of the village and follows the trail between Saksun and Vík.
Great Skua
Is most aggressive when the eggs are hatching in the latter half of July. He will dive towards those who come to close, and will even strike you with his feet. It can be scary but it is not dangerous. The best you can do is to walk on to clear the area where the nest or the chick is as soon as possible. The Great Skua nests in boggy terrain, and it is best to avoid this type of terrain to stay clear of their nesting sites. And keep in mind that the parents are only doing what we would all do to protect our offspring!
