Heyggjurin Mikli, Húgvan, and Eggjarmúli

Island:
Streymoy
Difficulty:
Moderate Hike
Length:
11 - 15 KM The trip starts in Tjørnuvík and there are two options. You can hike along the village trail to Saksun, or you can follow the white rocks located outside the village hall.
Great Skua
Is most aggressive when the eggs are hatching in the latter half of July. He will dive towards those who come to close, and will even strike you with his feet. It can be scary but it is not dangerous. The best you can do is to walk on to clear the area where the nest or the chick is as soon as possible. The Great Skua nests in boggy terrain, and it is best to avoid this type of terrain to stay clear of their nesting sites. And keep in mind that the parents are only doing what we would all do to protect our offspring!
