The average hiking speed is 2 km per hour. This tour will take about 12,5 hours.
The trip starts in Hvannasund. Take the ferry, Ritan, to Svínoy. Depending on wind direction, the ferry will arrive in either Eiðið, in case of southerly wind, or the village of Svínoy, in case of northerly wind. You can start the hikes from either place. Ask the local ferry worker when the ferry sails back to Hvannasund.
Great Skua
The bird(Great Skua) is most aggressive when the eggs are hatching in the latter half of July. It will dive towards those who come to close, and will even strike you with his feet. It can be scary but it is not dangerous. The best you can do is to walk on to clear the area where the nest or the chick is as soon as possible. The Great Skua nests in boggy terrain, and it is best to avoid this type of terrain to stay clear of their nesting sites. And keep in mind that the parents are only doing what we would all do to protect our offspring!
